As our new IT Technician in Niederheid, Germany, you will provide reliable IT services and technical support that enable our Canadian Armed Forces members and Department of National Defence staff across Europe to stay connected and carry out their work effectively.

We are 768 Communications Detachment Europe and we are the IT service provider supporting Canadians in Europe by delivering strategic communications and technical support.

ADDITIONAL NON-NEGOTIABLE FACTORS HAVING AN IMPACT ON YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT

1.             You must be willing to undergo a background investigation in order to obtain a valid security clearance certificate from your own NATO country of citizenship.

2.             If your country of citizenship has compulsory military service (conscription) for its citizens, you must have completed your compulsory military service (conscription) as per your country of citizenship’s legislation. If your country of citizenship does not have compulsory military service (conscription) for its citizens, this requirement is not relevant for you.

3.             You must be willing to provide the required documentation in order to obtain a ‘reliability status’.

4.             You must be able to obtain and maintain a clean criminal record check.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1.             Must be able to obtain, and maintain, a NATO Secret security clearance.

2.             Must be able to travel within Europe (both EU and non-EU countries).

3.             Must be able to maintain a Full EU Driving Licence (minimum category B (car)) for the duration of their employment.

 

OPERATIONAL & ORGANISATIONAL NEEDS

1.             Hours of work are subject to occasional variation in line with business requirements

2.             Must be available to travel in the course of their duties.

3.             For operational or unforeseen business reasons, employees must be willing and able to work from home, if requested to do so by their supervisor. However, this position is office based and is NOT a remote position.

 

THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA ARE CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL*

Essential Education: 

- Two years of education at an accredited post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology or another specialty relevant to the position.
At the Manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education combined with training and experience may serve as an alternative.

 

Essential Language:

- Fluent written and spoken English is essential.

 

Essential Experience:

- Experience (minimum of 1 year) working in an IT service delivery role which includes the diagnosing, analysing and troubleshooting of IT hardware and software faults/issues.

- Experience working with Microsoft Windows Operating System including Microsoft Office applications.

 

Essential Other:

- Full EU Driving Licence (minimum category B (car))

THE FOLLOWING ‘ASSET CRITERIA’ ARE CONSIDERED DESIRABLE**

- Experience imaging and configuring computer workstations.

- Experience managing service requests and incidents through their resolution within Service Desk automation tools.

- Experience updating configuration management databases.

- Experience with MS server and MS Exchange account administration.

- Experience dealing with user rights and privileges.

- Experience working with Cisco.

- Knowledge of Juniper.

- Ability to communicate in a language of one of the countries supported by our office (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Latvia, Italy, Poland, Spain, or Turkey)

 **Evidencing how you meet the ‘asset criteria’ is not essential but it could add further value to your application.

·         Costs associated with assessment, obtaining documentation to achieve reliability status or relocation will not be paid for or reimbursed by the employer (i.e. travel or any other associated costs/fees)

·         Lateral (internal) transfers are possible within the organisation, and these individuals may be given preference in the staffing process.

·         NATO Security Clearance:  Those selected must meet this condition (if required) on appointment and maintain it throughout their tenure in the position. Only citizens of a current NATO member country are able to obtain a NATO Security Clearance.

·         The successful applicant will be obliged to take care of their own safety and health at their prospective place of work within their ability and in accordance with the instructions and orders of the employer. Furthermore, they are also obliged to take care of the safety and health of persons, who are affected by their actions or omissions at work.  They are to report any direct and considerable danger to health and safety as well as failures of the safety systems to the employer or the relevant supervisor without any undue delay.

Basic information regarding contract conditions in Germany

Work hours

38.5 hours per week, 7.7 hours per day, from Monday to Friday. 

All employees are entitled to a minimum of thirty (30) minutes unpaid break for lunch after having worked at least six (6) and at maximum nine (9) hours on a day.

Probation Period

All new employees are subject to a probationary period of three (3) months that starts on the date of appointment and may be extended due to lengthy sick leave (>10 days)) or delayed security clearance.

Health Insurance

The employee must be insured with a German health insurance provider/company.

Pay Increments

Step 1 – upon employment (TOS) for 3 months

Step 2 – for 6 months of continuous employment

Step 3 – for 9 months of continuous employment

Steps 4 to 6 – for 24 months of continuous employment

Step 7 – for 36 months

Step 8 – Final step

Authorised Holidays

A Local National working under the CTA II Tariff Agreement will be eligible to paid time off on the German Statutory Holidays for their respective Federal County and on 24/31 December in accordance with Article 28 of the CTA II Tariff Agreement.

Annual Leave

30 days per calendar year. Leave may not be taken for the first time 6 months after commencement of employment.

Vacation Bonus

The employee receives a vacation bonus, payable with the May salary and calculated as two percent (2%) of the base salary earned during the previous year from June to May. Employee must have completed their probation period on May 1 (cut-off date) and have been employed with the Stationing Forces of the same Sending State at least on the last day of the month following the completion of the probation period.

Christmas Bonus

The employee receives a Christmas bonus, payable with the November salary and calculated as six point three three percent (6.33%) of the base salary earned during the previous year from December to November. Employee must have completed their probation period on October 31 (cut-off date) and have been employed with the Stationing Forces of the same Sending State at least on the last day of the month following the completion of the probation period.

Employer-funded Life Insurance

Solely financed by the employer – employee must have been employed continuously for at least five years with the Stationing Forces of the same Sending State to reap any benefits from this insurance.

Direct Insurance Plan - Pension Fund

Solely financed by the employee. An employee can request a fixed sum to be deducted of their gross income which is paid into this savings plan (reduces taxable income). The Sending States offer one specific insurance plan for this purpose.
