009-BC-01-26 Instructional Teaching Assistant (SHAPE)

Instructional Teaching Assistant - SHAPE International School (Canadian Section)

SHAPE International School in located in Casteau, Belgium. The Canadian Section provides education for children aged 6 to 13 (grades 1-8). We teach the Ontario Curriculum both English and French. Our students come from all over the world!

The Canadian Section is regularly looking for Instructional Teaching Assistants to come and support our teachers and our students. We comprise of an Elementary School Section and a Middle School Section. 

 

The role of an Instructional Teaching Assistant (classroom) is quite diverse and a typical week could entail:

    • Assisting with classroom management and student supervision.
    • Working with students individually or in small groups.
    • Preparing learning materials and classroom displays.
    • Supporting students with special needs or learning difficulties.
    • Helping to organise classroom events and field trips.

 

The role of an Instructional Teaching Assistant (library) is quite diverse and a typical week could entail:

    • Supporting students with accessing library resources.
    • Circulating and reviewing the book collection.
    • Supporting students with reading incentives or activities.
    • Assisting the Librarian with purchasing new books.
    • Reading books to classes (as required).
    • Helping teachers to find appropriate research or teaching materials

Work week hours Up to 32 hours per week, Up to 6.5 hours per day
Contract Type Temporary (up to 125 working days per calendar year)
Classification TA-I
Gross Salary

Hourly rate is under review for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year.
Your hourly rate will be paid in Euros.

Positions to be filled Ongoing requirement throughout the school year.
Conditions of Employment
    1. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status.
    2. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Operational Requirements
    1. Willingness and ability to work 11-months per year (11-month per year position).
    2. Willingness and ability to provide coverage/support for other team members as necessary.
    3. Willingness and ability to receive phone calls and/or messages at home for scheduling purposes.
    4. Willingness and ability to complete mandatory education/training relevant to the position.

 

Essential Criteria
 
Education and/or Qualifications:

Completion of secondary education or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience is defined as two years' secondary education and experience, usually gained over two years, working in an office environment.

Asset Qualifications

Education and/or Qualifications:
Valid first-aid and CPR qualification or equivalent.

Language
French

Experience:

Experience using Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Experience in interpreting and applying policies, procedures, directives or legislations for relevant manager, program or client.
Experience supporting individuals with special needs or learning difficulties.
Experience working with children in a structured work environment (e.g. daycare/school/summer-camp etc.).
